No Surprises
First off, make sure that your sit down with your spouse and discuss the option of personalized wedding vows before you jump in to making them. This isn’t to say that you have to tell them exactly what you plan on saying or, vice versa, for them to tell you everything. It is only to say that you both talk about if personalized vows are something that you want to include in your wedding.
You might also want to speak with the reverend or pastor just to give them a heads up about your plans. For some religions and religious services, there is a certain traditional wording that they might want you to follow. For others, it might be as simple a request as adding a certain word within your vows.
Quiet Time
It is absolutely essential that you make time in your day to sit down in a quiet room or place when you are coming up with your vows. Unless you are using an online thesaurus or for quote resources TURN YOUR COMPUTER OFF. Don’t let yourself get distracted for 4 hours browsing a lolcat site. In our technologically addicted world today, that might seem a bit harsh, but you can make it. After the wedding is done you can go back to your precious internet bookmark folder of random and useless web pages.
Just remember that this is the time that you have set aside to devote to your vows. It is one of the single most important thing that you will say, but more importantly, it is one of the single most important things that your spouse is going to hear from you.
Writer’s Block
You’ve been staring at a blank piece of paper for 2 hours but have yet to write anything. You feel your blood pressure rise as you try to search through the jumbled masses of your own thoughts. Despite your best efforts, the page remains blank.
Alright, first of all DO NOT PANIC! Believe it or not, writer’s block happens to everyone. Fortunately, there are a few tips out there for you. When in doubt or in writer’s block ALWAYS go back to the old grade school essay outline; Who?, What?, When?, Where?, Why? You can arrange these in any order you like and within any question that you like, but you should direct the questions at your spouse (Who is my partner? Why do I want to marry them? When did we first meet? And etc.)
